fashion[02] - once upon a time maybe? this little piece of dynasty was hanging up the other day, i had a vague wash of nostalgia, mum and her friends recreating the look while we were growing up - i think i need to try and track down some of those pictures for a laugh - looks like a trip to the attic next time i'm home - it's only really parents that still seem to have attics...

innovation - there were a few interesting/surprising links between 17th century 'open source' coffee house culture and what is happening on today's web, but it wasn't really expanded on, shame really. the one thing that everyone seemed to agree on is the power of collective genius and making the most of scenious as mr eno put it. collaboration and co-creation done in the right environment is great, there's nothing better than bouncing around ideas to take them up a level or too. maybe i could even use this as a justification to self to try and get everyday insights from other people to add to this little blog of mine...

technical*letdown - we have all been there I'm sure, key meeting, room full of very senior very inspiring people and then the projector fecks up, or 'we' do, or it does, or it's kind of working, or it was working yesterday...it certainly reinforces the need for a hard copy back-up [we had one] but when i look at the remote control i always wonder why a device that essentially only needs to do one thing [turn on] needs so many different options?
Hopefully my new labels will help reduce confusion a little bit, but they aren't really in the spirit of a sleek piece of kit.

forensics[01] - it's one of those things that catches your attention once and you wonder why you never saw it before - you'll need to click on the image to enlarge it and then let your imagination run wild...

touch*points[01] - eleven almost identical letters from british gas business all postmarked from the same day and the 'same person'. ten of them conclude i'm in credit by the same amount [although each equation getting them there is different] and one states i'm in debit; the question is can i just go with the majority? the reality will be another 30 minute phone call to a pleb that doesn't give a monkey's about an account that was closed three months ago...why does dealing with utilities have to be such a chore? is there a single brand out there that manages to make a 'distress' touch point less than totally painful? please let me know...

augmented realities[01] - location based mobile services are starting to feel pretty close to x-ray vision and are starting to make the intangible visible. is it exciting or a little bit scary that your relatively anonymous tweets can seen from the street?
last night i realised i could read my neighbours conversations using layar, which feels more voyeuristic than facebook stalking [not one of my pastimes i have to admit] but you don't have to be friends or followers to get access. it's interesting to see how digital is starting to reflect back into our real lives more and more but it's a little disconcerting to think 'my-mum-could-be-watching-what-i-write-from-downstairs'! [just to clarify - i don't live with my mum].
navigation[02] - outside of tottenham [where my phone stays firmly in my pocket!] i'll never have to guess where the tube station is ever again! i'm pretty excited by this app/technology for what it represents rather than what it actually does. acrossair are developing some really cool stuff. if you are interested in this, then take a look at layar on android too.
